learning diversity
“Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.”
We believe that difference is beautiful and commit to catering for the neurodiversity of all learners at Emmaus; supporting both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners on their journey.
Universal design for learning allows all learners to be supported at Tier 1 universally. We understand the importance of routine, predictability and catering for children and their individual needs.
For those who require Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, adjustments are made by teachers daily.
At Emmaus we have a robust Learning Diversity Program.
Learning Diversity Leaders support the programs of neurodivergent learners, alongside classroom teachers and families. Our Learning Diversity Leaders liaise with external providers, staff at Catholic Education Ballarat and also paediatricians. They facilitate Program Support Group meetings regularly and provide teachers with feedback to learning goals and adjustments to learning programs. Learning Diversity Leaders prepare timetables for Learning Support Officers (Education Staff) and ensure Intervention programs are facilitated with fidelity and the required frequency.
Students who require significant adjustments to their learning programs may be eligible for the the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This is an annual Australia-wide initiative that tracks the number of students receiving educational adjustments due to a disability. It ensures schools and governments can efficiently allocate resources and understand student support needs.
For those students in our care who are eligible for the NCCD, they receive adjustments that are recorded via a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) or a SAEP (Student Adjustment Evaluation Plan).

Parents are invited to engage in the NCCD Information Sheet for Parents.
As a school grounded in faith, hope and love, we commit to supporting all children to thrive and shine as authors of their own future and our Learning Diversity Programs supports this inclusive vision.
